Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) is poised for a show-down with the Pressure Control System Nigeria Ltd, an oil and gas processing company.
The impending action of the union was contained in a document which this reporter stumbled into.
The document indicates that the union had given 21 day ultimatum to the company which will expire on November 9, this year.
The union alleged that Pressure Control System had refused to adhere to the rules and regulations as they affect labour and union-related matters, thereby subjecting workers to unhealthy conditions.
The union further alleged that the company had refused to put in place an industrial environment that is obtained in any oil and gas company despite letters from federal ministry of labour and productivity.
“Most oil and gas companies operating at ONNE oil and gas free zone are under playing labour activities when it comes to workers to unionize as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution”.
The union said it has determ3ined to fight for the welfare of its members whose freedom of right had been trampled upon by oil companies.
It noted that several letters had been written to the management of the company which felt on deaf ears, adding that the attitude of the management was a great slight on the union.
The union called on the federal government to mount pressure on the company to allow workers to exercise their constitutional rights which are equally obtained in other developed countries.
