African Christians are too materialistic ~Cleric
By Alice Micah
A cleric, Reverend Samuel Ibemere has said that the problem of Christians, especially in Africa is that a lot of them pay more attention to things of the flesh than those that will uplift their spirit and soul.
Reverend Ibemere, who is the Pastor in-charge of Evangelical African Methodist Episcopal Zion (AMEZ) Church, Diobu Port Harcourt, stated this while preaching a sermon at a special Sunday service last week.
The cleric, who preached on the topic; 'Go for the best', said that Christians in Africa go extra miles to satisfy their flesh without paying much attention to things that will satisfy them spiritually.
“Our problem in Africa is that we are too outwardly conscious, we are conscious of only our body, forgetting about the soul and spirit.
“We always go extra miles to satisfy the flesh. Most Christians in Africa wake up in the morning without praying for the satisfaction of their soul and spirit”, the cleric said.
Regretting that most Christians find it difficult to make out time to go to Church to worship God, Reverend Ibemere reminded them that their survival in life lies in the hands of God and not how hard-working they are.
“Our problem is that we are too busy for ourselves and do not care about our souls. We only care about our business to the detriment of our souls.
“If you must labour, you have to labour for the real bread, which is the word of God. If you want to prosper, you must labour for the food that endures forever”, he stated, adding that God's plan and purpose for His children is to have the best things in life.
