Nwuke dedicates appointment to God
By Alice Micah
The bible says the whole duty that a man owes, is to give thanks and praise to God Almighty. It is in light of this that Prince Ogbonna Nwuke decided to give thanks to God and dedicate his new appointment to the Almighty for direction at the Anglican Diocese in Okomoko Friday.
Hon. Nwuke, who was appointed Commissioner for Commerce and Industry on Thursday, said his decision to allow God guide him in piloting the affairs of the new ministry is because a man needs wisdom and guidance.
As he puts it, “A man needs wisdom and guidance to succeed in whatever he is doing and that is why I am here”.
The former Commissioner for Information said he was grateful to God Almighty for giving him the grace to be given another chance in the Rivers State Executive Council to contribute his quota to the development of the state.
In his response, the Bishop in charge of Etche Missionary Diocese, Rt. Rev. Precious Okechukwu said the appointment was a design of God.
Quoting from the books of II Sam 5:7-21 and Psalm 27, Rev. Okechukwu noted that “even though God is with us, that does not mean there will be no troubles”, adding that in the midst of all, the Lord keeps us”.
He said, just like David who was attacked by the Philistines after his anointing as king over Israel, sometimes one cannot really find why he/she is being attacked by the enemy.
Rev Okechukwu prayed God Almighty who made the appointment possible to guide Prince Nwuke throughout his stay in office.
In another development, the people of Okomoko in Etche local government area of Rivers State have rolled out drums to welcome their worthy son, Prince Ogbonna Nwuke, who was appointed Commissioner for Commerce and Industry.
In a speech delivered by the Chairman of Okomoko Town Council (OKTC), Mr. Mike Alozie, the people said the reappointment of Prince Nwuke into the Rivers State cabinet was a clear indication of the governor's commitment to good governance.
“We see the recall of our illustrious, amiable and articulate son, Prince Ogbonna Nwuke into his cabinet, as a clear indication of the Governor's choice of meritocracy over mediocrity, trust over deceit and a show of demonstration of his commitment to good governance”, Mr. Alozie said.
He described Prince Nwuke as a humble person saying, “It is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice. In his last appointment as Commissioner of Information, Prince Ogbonna Nwuke exhibited maturity, gentility and transparency even in the face of provocations from certain quarters”.
Mr. Alozie the Okomoko people were happy with the Commissioner saying, “irrespective of where you come from, Prince Nwuke was never dominating, dictating or imposing himself on the will of Etche people, rather, he was accommodating and caring to all”.
He declared the peoples unflinching support and loyalty for Prince Nwuke and the Amaechi-led administration, and thanked the Governor for his visionary leadership.
Also speaking, Chief Magnus Nwuke, Traditional Ruler of Okomoko Town advised the newly-appointed commissioner to be objective in his dealings instead of satisfying others against his wish and conscience.
He pleaded with Prince Nwuke to avoid detractors and work hard to attract government's attention to the area in terms of meaningful development.
In his response, Prince Ogbonna Nwuke thanked the people of Okomoko for their support, assuring them he would not let them down.
He said that time has come for Etches to come out and compete with others so as to meet with the changing trend, adding, “The world is changing and the Etches need to move in the direction of that change”.
