Igwuruta Etche road, a treat to commuters ~Hon. Ukatta
By Sammy Nwogu
It is interesting that residents of Igwuruta and Etche communities have commenced work on Igwuruta and Etche road which links the both communities to other parts of Rivers State.
The market road junction to Etche kingdom has created terror and barrier between the two local government areas of Ikwerre and Etche, making it extremely difficult for transportation of food products from Etche to the Urban areas.
Last weekend however, residents of both communities under the co-ordination of Hon. Ukatta Emmanuel representing Omuma constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, carried out remedial work on the road.
According to Hon. Ukatta, the residents of the affected communities who are predominantly farmers could hardly convey their products to the markets, and appealed to wealthy individuals, corporate organizations and the Amaechi-led administration to help provide a permanent solution to the road which is owned by the Federal government.
He appealed to the Rivers State road rehabilitation agency and the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to help by providing culverts and quality drainages to divert water on the road to the rivers.
The Paramount Ruler of Omueke kingdom, Chief Godson Nnamdi Nlemogu thanked God for the communal efforts aimed at making the road passable.
He expressed the hope that the road rehabilitation committee set up by the affected communities would draw the attention of the state government.
Hon Emmanuel Ukatta expressed gratitude to Almighty God for the work, believing that it would alleviate the suffering of people in the two LGAs and beyond.
The chairman of Igwuruta Etche road rehabilitation committee, Prince Samuel Ikenga had earlier decried the sorry state of the road saying it and suggested that a permanent solution to the road would come through construction of drainages, culvets and other facilities which are beyond the capability of the agrarian communities.
In his speech, the councilor representing Ikwerre ward 12 constituency, Hon Christopher Amadi Awareh said the affected communities decided to embark on the remedial work to enhance socio-economic activities.
