Nonwa leaders seek compensation from police
…Over land acquired

Representative of communities in Nonwa axis of Tai local government council in Rivers State under the auspices of Nonwa Joint Council (NJC) were in the offices of the local government council chairman, Chief (Hon) Barry Mpigi on December 16 2009 on a courtesy visit.
They expressed their gratitude to him for recognizing Nonwa in the scheme of things which include appointments and projects such as the Nonwa ultra modern market.
They also appreciated the state governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for locating modern primary schools and health centres in various communities that make up Nonwa.
Pledging their readiness to work with the administrations both at the local and state levels, the people prayed God to reward them abundantly.
However, the NJC leaders through its spokesman, Hon. Mathew Dike informed Chief (Hon.) Barry Mpigi at the occasion said that, almost 32 years after extensive landmass belonging to Nonwa communities were acquired and developed as a police training school, compensations were still been delayed.
The people maintained that what they did was a patriotic action that deserves positive and urgent attention than the long and apparently forgotten attention they had received in turn from the necessary authorities since then.
They pleaded with the Tai council chairman to assist them by conveying their feeling and expectations to the federal government and police authorities for necessary actions.
Those in the NJC encourage included Hon. Mathew Dike, Chief S. T. Nkoue, Chief Barikpe Maballey, Hon. Royal Kone (councilor representing Nonwa ward 7) Chief Kennedy Ntunee and Chief Lelo Nyiedam.
Responding, the Tai council boss, Chief (Hon.) Barinada Mpigi lauded them for identifying with the present administration at home and in Port Harcourt.
Chief Barry Mpigi explained that the ultra modern market would cost N400m and cover facilities such as a bank security post and a 200-seater open hall, among others.
He disclosed that the vacant position of Gbbenemene Barasi Nonwa (a 2nd class stool) would soon be filled without interference and promised to continue his best in service for the entire Tai kingdom.
The council boss also announced proposal to re-locate the Tai police station to allow for the on-going federal government road expansion project.
