House of Reps Speaker jets into
Port Harcourt
... Heads for Govt. House
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Masari jetted
into Port Harcourt Sunday evening.
He flew in aboard a presidential jet at about 4.00 p.m Nigerian time
and was received on arrival by some officials led by the Mayor of Port
Harcourt, Chief Azubuike Nmerukini.
When the aircraft carrying landed on the tarmac, an enthusiastic crowd
of PDP supporters that had come to welcome their flag bearer, Chief
Rotimi Amaechi surged forward.
It turned out to be one of the aircrafts on the presidential fleet marked
"Nigeria Air Force", with a seal of the Federal Government
embossed on its tail board
The House of Reps speaker who did not want to speak to the press simply
got into a black Range Rover which was part of an impressive convoy
of cars despatched to pick him at the Air Force Base by the Rivers State
Government and left hurriedly.
It is not clear what his mission to the State was, but this publication
gathered that he was well received at Government House.
Details of his discussions with Governor Peter Odili was not available
as at press time.
Our sources however hinted that issues of mutual interest to the nation
and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party may have been on the cards,
saying the talks between the State Governor and the speaker may have
been open and frank.
Masari had failed to make it to the Katsina State Government House as
governor.
Last week pressure was reportedly being piled on the PDP's presidential
flag bearer to support a plan that would see the dropping of his successor
for Masari, a move Yar' Adua is said to have resisted.
